Yunshan Chair Professor Istvan Kecskes’ Lecture on“The role of context in intercultural impoliteness”

Yunshan Chair Professor Istvan Kecskes from New York State University was invited to give a lecture on “The role of context in intercultural impoliteness” at the National Research Center for Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies on June 17th, 2013.

Professor Istvan Kecskes firstly surveyed different definitions of impoliteness and then pointed out the role of context in impoliteness production and interpretation. He analyzed the particular role of context in intercultural impoliteness, with many interesting data from intercultural interaction. The dynamic nature and the effect of actual situation context were discussed.

In the question and answer section, participants raised questions about the types of context and the role of context in intercultural impoliteness. Professor Kecskes made some insightful answers.
