A lecture on ‘EndNote and Academic Thesis Writing’ was given by Professor Liu Jianda, Director of the National Research Centre of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics (CLAL), in the Centre Lecture Hall on the afternoon of Oct. 17th, 2012. Many teachers and students in the university were attracted to the lecture.

For the complexity of importing and managing a huge number of references, Prof. Liu suggested we conduct the research in a more efficient way by utilizing software. Then EndNote was taken as an example. As in the demonstration, it could be used to build a data base embracing one’s literature the references to which can be downloaded and imported from all sorts of data banks, for instance, Science Direct, EBSCO-Academic Source Premier, GoogleScholar and CNKI. The convenience of using such software was further illustrated by its powerful performance on editing and labeling entries and building and modifying journals’ completes. Next Prof. Liu explained and presented how to apply EndNote to writing an academic thesis on WORD by automatically inserting the references and formatting the paper. At the end he answered the questions raised by some teachers on specific issues in using EndNote.

All the attendees felt the lecture extremely helpful and responded positively.
