On December 18th and 19th, 2015, theInternational Symposium on Psycholinguistics of Second Language Acquisition andBilingualism was held by the Department of English, Department of Linguists andModern Languages, and the Childhood Bilingualism Research Centre at the ChineseUniversity of Hong Kong. The symposium brought together scholars from Europe,the United States, China, and the Hong Kong local community, including Prof. BrianMacWhinney, Prof. Yasuhiro Shirai, Prof. Jason Zevin, Prof. Stephen Matthews,Prof. Virginia Yip, and Prof. Yanping Dong. Prof. Yanping Dong and Dr. JingYang from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies delivered speeches,introducing the findings of the Bilingual Cognition and Education Lab. Issuesthat were explored at the symposium included the latest theoretical andmethodological advancements in the psycholinguistic research of SLA andbilingualism, language development of bilingual children, bilingual corpusconstruction, and innovative applications in second language pedagogy andbilingual education. Prof. Brian MacWhinney noticed that the innovation oftechnology should be better utilized in the process of data collection. The Symposium was also co-organized by theBilingualism and Language Disorders Laboratory, CUHK Shenzhen ResearchInstitute.
